Adopt-A-Family
Pick any of our American cities and walk down most any street. Knock on the first door you come to and ask how you can help.
There are two things that you will discover: (1) no one will turn you down (2) the scope of family needs are extensive.
Along with surmounting foreclosures and a trickling economy, families aren'’t faring well.
The opportunities to do good are abundant. Adopt-A-Family is a project developed and initiated by North Meck Church of Christ to help families who are experiencing temporary crisis and may be in need of short term assistance.
This project, at its current pace, will assist twelve families a year. The Charlotte Crisis Center provides names from a database of callers. Each family that has been identified, receives a visit from the young men of our congregation who brings groceries every weekend between the hours of 10:00 -– 11:00 a.m.
Our task force consists of the sisters of our church, a ministry coordinator, and eight brothers who travel in groups of two’s. Additionally, each family will receive a call from the coordinator to develop a grocery list of items needed for the month.
This list is then distributed to participating families where items are picked up during routine grocery runs. The groceries are gathered to a central location for ease of delivery.
From here, the program is set into motion and continued without interruptions except when five weeks occur in the month. After each delivery, time is set aside for prayer, Bible study, or other needs that we can assist with. Adopt-A-Family is a great ministry for any congregation!!
